Synopsis:
As the inaugural Artist-in-Residence at the Pao Arts Center, Shaw Pong created the project and led a team of 4 teen researchers in an oral history video project documenting songs from home and migration stories of the Boston Chinatown community. She created several free community events bringing Chinatown residents and passersby together, including “Lunch for a Song”, “Live Band Karaoke” at the Pao Arts Center and performance/song-exchange events at the neighborhood library, homeless shelter, senior center, elementary school, and medical school. She also curated a series of outdoor “Song Exchange” concerts and open mic events at the Chinatown Gate. Created an online song library with song videos from over 100 participants, subtitled in Mandarin and English. 2017-2018.
